Denise Nicolau Highlights Community-Led Ocean Conservation at Innovation Zero London 2025

Events

On April 30, 2025, Denise Nicolau, a REGEN 24-25 cohort member and regional leader within the Great Blue Wall initiative, participated in a key panel at Innovation Zero London titled “Restoring Our Oceans: Taking a Community-led Approach.” Joined by fellow experts from the blue finance and private sectors, the panel drew over 50 attendees into an engaging discussion on the future of ocean restoration.

The session emphasized the critical role of Indigenous and local knowledge, science-based decision-making, inclusive leadership, and sustainable financing in advancing community-led marine conservation. Nicolau proudly represented the Western Indian Ocean region and the voices of women in conservation, showcasing the impact of the Great Blue Wall.

The conversation was introduced with a screening of Passage of Storm, a film by Gab Mejia, also a REGEN fellow, setting a powerful emotional tone for the session.
