Events
Climate Week NYC provided a global platform for thought leaders, policymakers, and activists to come together and discuss urgent climate issues. Three members RE.GENERATION cohort, Gab Mejia, Carla Gautier, and Nisreen Elsaim, participated in various events and panels, sharing their expertise and passion for environmental preservation.
Green My Experience Panels
On September 23rd, the Green My Experience panels provided a platform for in-depth discussions on sustainability and the travel industry. Carla Gautier, founder of KONTi Design Build Studio, joined a panel focused on “Pioneering Sustainable Tourism Development”. She emphasized the importance of greener construction practices to reduce carbon emissions, highlighting the crucial role of sustainable infrastructure in shaping a more environmentally friendly travel sector.
Gab Mejia, Multimedia artist and National Geographic Explorer, participated in a panel titled "The Traveler's Voice – Inspiring a Sustainable Future." He shared his insights on how travelers can make a real difference by supporting local communities and embracing responsible tourism practices. Gab also advocated for slow travel and authentic storytelling, emphasizing the importance of connecting with local cultures and contributing to sustainable development.
September 24: Celebrating Women Leaders in Climate
Carla Gautier and Nisreen Elsaim were invited to join the Women and Climate community for a Gala Dinner. This event celebrated women leaders in the climate space and highlighted important topics such as the Arctic, careers in building and industry decarbonization, and women on boards. Nisreen Elsaim participated in the Rising Stars panel, sharing her experiences and perspectives as a young leader in the climate movement. September 25: Indigenous Advocacy and Conservation
Gab Mejia took the stage at the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation's Forests and Communities Initiative event, entitled "Voices of the Forest: From Indigenous Advocacy to Conservation Action." In his opening speech, he shared his personal story as a storyteller and the importance of sharing indigenous stories to protect our planet. Gab emphasized the power of diversity and the need to uncover the collective histories intertwined with our land to find solutions to the ecological crisis.
The participation of Gab Mejia, Carla Gautier, and Nisreen Elsaim at Climate Week NYC 2024 showcased the RE.GENERATION cohort's commitment to environmental protection. Their contributions to various panels and events highlighted the importance of collaboration, storytelling and advocacy in addressing the pressing challenges of climate change.
